Swarovski Crystal Palace at Maison & Objet 2009 in Paris
NEW FURNITURE BY TORD BOONTJE LAUNCHED IN PARIS
Swarovski Crystal Palace launched an exclusive selection of designer collaborations at this year’s Maison & Objet Salon in Paris, 23-27 January 2009.
New Crystal Ice furniture designed by the highly innovative designer Tord Boontje for Swarovski Crystal Palace was launched to great acclaim. Following the success of his intricate ‘Ice Branch’, he used a similar technique of densely wrapped crystals to create three new furniture designs (Crystal Ice Bench, Crystal Ice Table, Crystal Ice Stool), which give an illusion of floating icicles encased in a striking minimal structure.
Capturing the ethereal quality of crystals in contemporary statements of brilliance, designers D.B. Kim, Diller Scofidio & Renfro, Fabien Baron, Fredrikson Stallard, Georg Baldele, Jaime Hayón, Michael Anatassiades, Tokujin Yoshioka, Tom Dixon, Tord Boontje, and Vincent Van Duysen presented their innovative creations in a unique setting.
The eye-catching centrepiece of the exhibition, ‘Cascade’ was designed by Vincent van Duysen, who was awarded the Maison et Objet ‘Scénes d’intérieur Designer 2009’. Cascade is an opulent 3 metre chandelier with cascading drops of Swarovski crystals, echoing the tempestuous flow of a waterfall.
