Tord Boontje was born in the Netherlands in 1968 and first studied industrial design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven from 1986 – 1991 then at the Royal College of Art in London for his Master’s degree. The designer set up Studio Boontje and relocated to Bourg-Argental in France. For Boontje, accent is placed upon emotion as well as design. The studio’s work draws from a belief that modernism does not mean minimalism, and that contemporary does not forsake tradition.
Tord Boontje is a highly inventive designer who specialises in working with traditional materials such as glass and metal to create contemporary, stylish and delicate designs inspired by nature and the juxtaposition with technology.
